 In this study, the propagation of acoustic waves in two-dimensional sonic crystals (SC) is studied theoretically. Effects of elliptical rod orientations on the acoustic band gaps in periodic arrays of rigid solid rods embedded in a polar liquid are investigated.

Different combination of the GaN/AlN super lattice, low temperature AlN, high temperature AlN and AlxGa1-xN (x approximately 0.67) layers were used in the buffer structures.

 In this Article, we propose a simple but powerful medium for quantum information processing and communication consisting of a zero-index photonic crystal (PC) waveguide (WG). By exploiting the zero-index behavior of the PC WG, we overcome the difficulty of sensitivity in quantum dots’ location, which is one of the main challenges for preparing and measuring a two qubitentangled state.

401.   Enhanced tunability of V-shaped plasmonic structures using ionic liquid gating and graphene

 In the present paper, we demonstrate a graphene-based device with ionic liquid gating and V- shaped plasmonic antennas to both enhance and more effectively tune the total optical response. We are able to tune the transmission response of the device for up to 389 nm by changing the gate voltage by 3.8 V in the mid-infrared regime.

397.   Complementary and alternative technique for the determination of electron effective mass: quantum Hall effect

 In this paper, the quantum Hall effect measurements in the AlInN/AlN/GaN heterostructure are studied in the temperature range from 1.8 K to 14 K and a magnetic field up to 11 T. The quantized two-dimensional electron gas was placed at the AlN/GaN interface.

396.   Location and Visualization of Working p-n and/or n-p Junctions by XPS

 In this paper, X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy (XPS) is used to follow some of the electrical properties of a segmented silicon photodetector, fabricated in a p-n-p configuration, during operation under various biasing configurations. Mapping of the binding energy position of Si2p reveals the shift in the position of the junctions with respect to the polarity of the DC bias applied.

395.   Enhanced transmission and beaming via a zero-index photonic crystal

 Certain types of photonic crystals with Dirac cones at the Γ point of their band structure have a zero effective index of refraction at Dirac cone frequency. Here, by an appropriate design of the photonic structure, we obtain a strong coupling between modes around the Dirac cone frequency of an all-dielectric zero-index photonic crystal and the guided ones supported by a photonic crystal waveguide.

393.   Guided Plasmon Modes of a Graphene-Coated Kerr Slab

 In this paper, We study analytically propagating surface plasmon modes of a Kerr slab sandwiched between two graphene layers. We show that some of the modes that propagate forward at low field intensities start propagating with negative slope of dispersion and positive flux of energy (fast-light surface plasmons) when the field intensity becomes high.

According to the predictive results, reveal that the CdXO3 and ZnXO3 would be candidates for a high performance lead free optical crystal, which will avoid the environmental toxicity problem of the lead-based materials.

The effect of the material absorption factor on terahertz absorption (A), transmittance (T), and reflectance (R) for slabs of PhC that comprise rods made of GaAs, a polar dielectric, is studied. The main goal was to illustrate how critical a choice of the absorption factor for simulations is and to indicate the importance of the possible modification of the absorption ability by using either active or lossy impurities.

We studied directional selectivity arising when the Gaussian beam is incident on a single PhC prism and a single solid uniform prism at two opposite directions. Compared to the earlier studies of asymmetric transmission in prism based configurations, incidence on the corner (wedge) was utilized as a counterpart of the considered mechanism, in which refraction and reflection play the main role.

376.   Multiband One-Way Polarization Conversion in Complementary Split-Ring Resonator Based Structures by Combining Chirality and Tunneling

In this study, one-way conversion of a linear incident polarization into the orthogonal one has been obtained in the structures based on aperture-type, i.e., CSRR arrays at multiple maxima of high-efficiency transmission. Thus, a properly designed metamaterial can show diodelike behavior at the maxima, i.e., it transmits the incident wave without reflections in one direction and reflects it in the opposite one.

In this study, we propose a simple realistic two-dimensional complex parity-time-symmetric photonic structure that is described by a non-Hermitian potential but possesses real-valued eigenvalues. The concept is developed from basic physical considerations to provide asymmetric coupling between harmonic wave components of the electromagnetic field.
